Local Bylaws

Please obey all bylaws when in harbour territory, they are in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment for all harbour users.

HOPE HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS

HOPE HARBOUR IS LEASED FROM CROWN ESTATES. THE H.H.C. IS A STATUTORY BODY WHICH CAN MAKE AND ENFORCE BYE LAWS. HARBOUR USERS DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK AND H.H.C. TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO PERSONS OR CRAFT. PROOF OF VALID INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CRAFT.

BYE LAWS

1. DOGS ARE TO BE KEPT ON LEADS AND UNDER CONTROL. DOG MESS IS TO BE PICKED UP AND DEPOSITED IN BINS, FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN A DOG BAN.

2. NO CARS ON BEACH OTHER THAN HARBOUR OFFICIALS AND REGISTERED FISHERMEN. PROVISION FOR UNLOADING AND COLLECTING BOATS CAN BE MADE WITH THE HARBOURMASTER. BOATS MUST BE REMOVED BY 31 OCTOBER. ROAD TRAILERS CANNOT BE LEFT ON THE BEACH. 

3. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 5 KNOTS WITHIN THE HARBOUR AND AREA WITHIN THE YELLOW MARKER BUOYS.

4. NO FIRES OR BARBECUES ON HARBOUR BEACH DUE TO THE RISK FROM FUEL STORED IN BOATS.

5. NO DRONES TO BE FLOWN FROM HARBOUR BEACH. 

6. NO DIGGING IN BOATING AREA. ALL SANDCASTLES AND HOLES DUG IN THE SAND TO BE LEVELLED AT THE END OF THE VISIT TO PROVIDE CLEAR ACCESS FOR BOATS.

7. BOAT ENGINES TO BE STARTED IN DEEP WATER TO AVOID DAMAGE TO MOORING ROPES.

8. NO COMMERCIAL USE OTHER THAN THOSE APPROVED BY THE H.H.C.

9. NO PUBLIC NUISANCE WITH LOUD MUSIC. RESPECT OTHER BEACH USERS. 

10. KEEP THE HARBOUR SAFE AND TIDY. USE RUBBISH BINS PROVIDED.
